About KC

Kristopher (KC) Baker is a native of central Indiana. Born in Danville, his family relocated to southern Morgan County, where he spent most of his formative years. He graduated from Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar, Indiana, in 1999, with honors and was named a Wells Scholar at Indiana University. While at IU as an undergraduate student, KC was active in politics and other causes, and he graduated from the university with a degree in political science and a minor in informatics.

His work experience includes roles in education – he has been a math teacher and served as the Director of Technology at a private school – business management, and several leadership roles in both the nonprofit and private sectors.

Today, KC is a web developer for Bloomington-based Cook Medical, and he is also a dual master's degree candidate in information science and public affairs, skills KC hopes to put to good use as a member of Bloomington's city council. "I want to use information technology and an understanding of how governments and nonprofits work to make better, more effective policy decisions," says KC, whose current work at IU includes serving as the assistant director of a nonprofit IT clinic that partners with local nonprofit organizations to solve their technology problems at no cost to the organization.

KC has governing experience through service as a commissioner with the Central Shenandoah Regional Planning District, a central Virginia government agency tasked with providing logistical and financial support to local municipalities. As a Commissioner, he became familiar with public agency budgets, grant writing, and personnel matters in the public sector. He is also the past director of the Greater Trafalgar, Indiana, Chamber of Commerce, a role which provided him with insight into building business-friendly communities. This fall, he is participating in the City of Bloomington's Citizen Academy to learn everything he can about the City of Bloomington's agencies and services.

An avid bicyclist, KC regularly commutes from his home on the southwest side of Bloomington to downtown via bicycle, riding through much of his city council district and on a portion of the B-Line trail. In addition, he enjoys travel, history, reading, and volunteer work.

Kristopher (KC) Baker has the experience, perspective, and drive to work with neighbors and communities to create a Better Bloomington. Please join him by getting involved now and voting for a change on November 8!
